Catching crayons

New week, new season, new collection!! Spring is in the air and has inspired my bright, playful and fun new collection 'catching crayons' With dancing foxes, wise owls and cuckoo clocks. Who could resist?

I will be launching this new work at Pulse in June and also have a whole new concept for the design of my stand. In fact I have been working on a re-design for the Dear Prudence logo too.

I love change, and I guess thats why I love designing for cards and stationery. Its so fast and I can constantly change and evolve as  my business grows. Although, I can be very indecisive and it can often take months before I make decisions and stick to them.

Anyway, very excited about this new range and there maybe more to come. Hope you like it!

Serious about Ceramics

This week I have been obsessed with ceramics. Print, shape, colour, texture. It's all relevant for a big future project!! Yes folks it's all pretty exciting. More news to follow.
I have been passionate about every era from art deco to Denby!!
I have just finished the Clarice Cliff novel and I couldn't put it down.

Anthropologie ceramics range makes my heart skip a beat. I adore it. Nathalie Lete is one to be admired. the hand drawn quality is beautiful. I want to buy some ceramic paints and just draw the day away. It's lovely to think out of the box of cards and be able to think about a 3D object. Will let you know how I get on in this new world.

Guten Tag Dear Prudence

I am so excited about a new venture. Dear Prudence has reached Germany and is a new growing market for our little business.
I met Clemens from Brevi Manu at Top Drawer in January and after ordering for his shop has now become my agent in Germany and will be introducing Dear Prudence to some amazing department stores and trendy shops all over Germany and Berlin!
After translating this to English this is what he has to say..........

"Brand new and first time on the continent shows BREVIMANU the sensational collection of the young designer Laura Vickers from England. Discovered and we have met Laura in London in mid-January and were immediately electrified by her drawings. Your handwriting is totally different and unique, it plays with the contrasts of ornaments, more realistic and linked to it is always a little statement that make you smile. We will contact selected friends and nice stores and styles as posters and greeting cards in Germany exclusively through wholesale BREVIMANU INC. . Offer Of course we keep these beautiful cards, including envelopes for all customers and friends at BREVIMANU Gehrenberg 18/Bielefeld at a price of 3.50 € ready"

Amy Cutler- An Illustrator to be admired

After three months of packing cards, invoicing and keeping my selling head on I am now free to be transported back into my world of drawing!! Its been too long!!

This week I have immersed myself into any inspiration I can get my hands on. My head is about to explode with all the beautiful imagery I have found. Honestly, I cant even sleep at night I have so many ideas swimming around in there. I even have a sketchbook on my bedside table so when I dream an idea I can jot it down.

There is so many wonderful illustrators out there but time and time again I always come back to the timeless work of Amy Cutler. I cant get enough of it. I found she has a book but at £95 I think I will have to save up for that one.

Its the perfect balance between whimsical and a little dark. The relationship she creates between animals and people is beautiful and each drawing tells it's own story.

Here are a few of my favourites I wanted to share with you.........enjoy

I will let you know when I get my hands on the book....

yet to be a great blogger

I wish I could get more into my blog but to do this one must have a very good camera to take great photos of their current work.
I am still saving up for my camera. I have managed to break two in the last year and even lose the USB connection of my partners camera. oops!!
So when Jen Owens (a great photographer) took this picture of my cards at the Glasgow School of art shop I had to share it with you. They sell like hot cakes here. Maybe it's because there on the top shelf....
